CADNA Hosts Policy Forum to Discuss Online Challenges of 2010

WASHINGTON, February 1, 2010 – The Coalition Against Domain Name Abuse (CADNA), global brand owners, academics, and government representatives examined far-reaching proposals that may impact businesses at a policy forum CADNA held on January 29. Keynote speaker Utah State Senate Transportation and Public Utilities and Technology Committee Chair Stephen Urquhart (R-UT 29th District) traveled to Washington, D.C. to present his Utah E-Commerce Integrity Act, which is considered a harbinger for changes to the federal Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act (ACPA).

CADNA Congratulates President Obama for Selecting Mr. Schmidt as Chief of Cybersecurity

WASHINGTON, December 22, 2009--The Coalition Against Domain Name Abuse (CADNA) enthusiastically supports President Obama’s selection of Mr. Howard A. Schmidt for Chief of Cybersecurity. Mr. Schmidt, who served as vice chairman of President George W. Bush’s Critical Infrastructure Protection Board and chief security officer at Microsoft, brings both public and private sector experience to his new position with the Obama administration. He is highly qualified and should be a tremendous asset to White House cybersecurity efforts.

CADNA Releases Letter of Support for the Utah E-Commerce Integrity Act

WASHINGTON, December 16, 2009 - The Coalition Against Domain Name Abuse (CADNA) strongly urges the Utah state legislature to pass the Utah E-Commerce Integrity Act sponsored by Senator Stephen Urquhart, Chairman of the Transportation and Public Utilities and Technology Committee. Senator Urquhart's legislative proposal, introduced recently and presented before an interim committee hearing, amends existing state law to more effectively discourage bad actors who are looking to profit from the registration or maintenance of a domain name in bad faith—cybersquatters and their affiliates.

CADNA Supports Delay in gTLD Expansion and Favors an Independent Review

WASHINGTON, November 4, 2009-- The Coalition Against Domain Name Abuse (CADNA) is pleased to see that the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) has paused its push for the release of new generic top level domains (gTLDs). ICANN’s decision falls in line with CADNA’s long-standing position that ICANN needs to pause and thoroughly evaluate the implications of introducing a potentially unlimited number of new gTLDs.

CADNA Supports ICANN’s Initiative to Examine gTLD WHOIS Policy and Hopes for Results

WASHINGTON, October 30, 2009--The Coalition Against Domain Name Abuse (CADNA) supports ICANN’s initiative to examine gTLD WHOIS policy. CADNA’s Top Ten List from September 22, 2009, identified WHOIS reform as a priority action for ICANN.

It is important that all domain names have full and accurate registrant and contact information to enable the identification and prosecution of bad actors. CADNA urges ICANN to ensure that registrars require their customers to display accurate WHOIS records in order to promote accountability in the space.

WASHINGTON, September 22, 2009—With just over a week left before the expiration of the Joint Project Agreement (JPA) between the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and the Department of Commerce, the Coalition Against Domain Name Abuse (CADNA) urges the US government to closely re-examine ICANN's structure, governance, and oversight mechanisms before committing to any further long-term cooperation. Significant adjustments must be made to the JPA in order to remedy the egregious problems CADNA has found with ICANN.
